BS Yeddyurappa Stakes Claim to Form Government in Karnataka, to Take Oath as Chief Minister Today
After meeting the Governor, Yeddyurappa declared that he will be taking oath as chief minister today, Friday evening at 6 PM.
Bengaluru, July 26: BJP Karnataka State Unit Chief BS Yeddyurappa arrived at the residence of Governor Vajubhai Vala at 10 AM on Friday. BS Yeddyurappa staked claim to form government during his meeting with the Governor. The Congress-JD(S) government led by HD Kumaraswamy lost the trust vote in the assembly on Tuesday, giving BS Yeddyurappa an opening to claim stake for the post of chief ministership again.
After meeting the Governor, Yeddyurappa declared that he will be taking oath as chief minister today, Friday evening at 6 PM. The BJP has 105 legislators and they have support of an independent MLA, taking their number to 106 in the 224 members assembly. Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar on Thursday disqualified three MLAs including two rebel legislators of the Congress till the end of the term of the house in 2023.
The three MLAs suspended by Kumar are - Independent MLA R Shankar from Ranebennur constituency and Congress’ Ramesh Jarkiholi from Gokak constituency in Belagavi and Mahesh Kumathalli from Athani constutuency in Belgaum. According to reports, the speaker decided to disqualify the MLAs after he was convinced that the resignations of the legislator were not voluntary.
