'BJP Violating MCC, Sending Audio Messages to Odisha Voters Day Before Polls', Alleges BJD in Complaint to Election Commission
Just a day before the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) wrote to Chief Electoral Officer, Bhubaneswar for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Bhubaneswar, April 28: Just a day before the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) wrote to Chief Electoral Officer, Bhubaneswar for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJD alleged that the BJP is campaigning through voice call during the silent period. The Naveen Patnaik-led party also demanded against the BJP leaders and the service provider circulating these voice calls. Six parliamentary seats in Odisha are going for polls in the fourth phase along with 43 assembly seats including Patruka assembly seat, where the polling was postponed from April 23 to April 29 due to the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla. In the first phase four constituencies went for the polls on April 11, while in the second phase on April 18, the polling was held in five constituencies. Meanwhile, six constituencies went for polling in the third phase on April 23. The counting of votes will take place after the seventh phase of the general elections on May 23. The campaigning for the fourth phase of elections ended yesterday at 5 pm. The main contest is to be witnessed between the incumbent BJD) headed by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, the BJP and the Congress. In the 2014 assembly election, the BJD retained power by winning 117 seats in the 147-seat assembly. Meanwhile, the Congress bagged 16 seats, whereas, the BJP managed to win only 10 seats. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in an interview to news agency ANI, expressed willingness for an open post-poll alliance with any political party who works for the development of the state. He had said, “Any party or coalition who supports the development and the just claims of Odisha will have our support.”
