The saffron party will also hold 250 press conferences across the country in support of the CAA. As part of the special campaign, the BJP will contact more than three crore families. BJP leader Bhupender Yadav while addressing a press conference said, “Our party has decided that in the coming 10 days we will launch a special campaign and contact over three crore families for Citizenship Amendment Act. Yadav further added, “We will hold press briefings in support of this Act at more than 250 places.”
Meanwhile, at least 11 people, including an 8-year-old boy, lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh as the protests against the CAA, officials said on Saturday. Four deaths were reported from Meerut district, while the boy lost his life in a stampede in Varanasi when a violent mob was being chased by police personnel. According to reports, six policemen also received bullet injuries in various parts of the state. Yesterday, six people were killed in the state in protests after Friday prayers. Anti-CAA protests have so far claimed lives in Bijnor, Sambhal, Firozabad, Kanpur, Varanasi and Meerut districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The curfew has also been imposed in Assam’s Tinsukia from 8 pm on Saturday night to 5 am on Sunday. The administration decided to impose the cerfew after reports emerged that violence could once again erupt in the district. Similarly, curfew was relaxed for only for three hours in violence-hit Mangaluru in Karnataka on Saturday. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that curfew would be relaxed from 3 pm to 6 pm today i.e. December 21, while the night curfew will continue.
