Mumbai, June 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not seem to be leaving any stone unturned on the road to 2019. The party, through it's initiative 'Sampark for Samarthan' is reaching out to possible allies as well as influential members of the civil society for support. After meeting Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Monday, BJP President Amit Shah is now set to meet Shiv Sena chief and friend turned foe Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai on Wednesday.

According to reports, Shah will be meeting Thackeray as part of the Sampark for Samarthan program of the BJP even as the Shiv Sena has decided to break away from the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting will be closely watched as the Shiv Sena as well as Thackeray have been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the BJP over the past couple of years.

The Shiv Sena also fought the recently held Palghar bypoll separately, which the BJP won. However, the BJP ruled out an alliance with the Shiv Sena. Thackeray has remained silent on the alliance post the Palghar bypoll loss.

Sampark for Samarthan

The Sampark for Samarthan initiative was launched by Amit Shah on May 30 in an attempt to reach out to people and generate awareness about the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the past four years. Eyeing the 2019 general elections, Shah has said that he will reach out to at least 50 people personally and give them details of the initiative and inform them about the achievements of the government. He said that each BJP worker has been given the responsibility of contacting at least ten people for the same. Shah said that the NaMo App would also be promoted in a similar manner.

On Monday, Shah called on Baba Ramdev here on Monday and sought his support for the party in the 2019 general elections. Shah met Ramdev as part of the initiative. “We are meeting all those, who supported us in the formation of the BJP-led government in 2014. We are apprising them of all our work and efforts. We are also seeking support from them for the 2019 elections,” Shah said. “Meeting Baba Ramdev means we are meeting millions of people (who are his followers). He has assured us full support for next year’s elections,” he added.
