Bengaluru, July 30: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has been fielded as the party's candidate for the election of Karnataka Speaker for the assembly. Kageri filed his nomination in presence of new Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday. The election of the new speaker will be held on Wednesday. According to reports, the state BJP leaders zeroed the name of Kageri after former Speaker and BJP MLA KG Bopaiah didn't show any inclination. The post became vacant following the resignation of KR Ramesh after he stepped down from the position on Monday.

Meanwhile, no decision has been taken by the opposition Indian National Congress to field a candidate as the saffron party is enjoying a majority with 106 members in 208-member assembly.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, earlier known as Yeddyurappa, was sworn-in as the CM on Friday after the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) government collapsed.
