Mumbai, January 8: Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Suresh Dhas made a controversial remark on migrant labourers from Bihar. He stated men from Bihar live in Maharashtra, while their wives give birth to children in their home state and husbands distribute sweets in Maharashtra again.

The above comment has evoked angry reactions from members of different parties, spread across regions. Even within the BJP, leaders have condemned the remark of Dhas and sought an unconditional apology. Lashing out at the MLC over the remark, party leader Sanjay Tiger said the remark was not just condemnable but also divisive, and the party would seek a clarification from Dhas on his remark. Upset with the remark, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituent Janata Dal-United (JDU) also lashed at Dhas for his remark. JDU spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan said, as reported by Zee News, “The remark is condemnable and also one to insult 11 crores Biharis. His comments attack the prestige of people of Bihar.”

However, opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) used the opportunity to hit out at the BJP, commenting that the remark reflects the ideology of the ruling party.
