Lucknow, January 19: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Uttar Pradesh Sadhna Singh on Saturday made derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati. Addressing a gathering, MLA Sadhna Singh said Mayawati is neither a woman nor a man. Targetting Mayawati for joining hands with the Samajwadi Party, the BJP legislator said the BSP supremo is worse than a transgender.

"Mayawati is a disgrace to all women. She is worse than a transgender because she is neither a woman nor a man," Sadhna Singh, who represents Mughalsarai constituency, said. Referring to the infamous '1995 Lucknow guest house incident', the BJP MLA went on say that Mayawati has no self-respect. "For power, she (Mayawati) has joined hands with those who abused her," Sadhna Singh said. Shivpal Rakes 'Guest House Case', Warns Akhilesh Against Mayawati.

The 1995 infamous guest house scandal is one of the grimmest chapters of UP politics. In 1993, then Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP founder Kanshi Ram had come together in Uttar Pradesh at the time of state polls to fight the BJP, which was garnering enormous support over its Ram temple pitch. The SP-BSP alliance bagged a total of 176 seats and managed to form the government under Mulayam's leadership with the Congress' support. Mayawati Promotes SP-BSP Alliance on Her 63rd Birthday, Asks Workers to Forget Past Differences.

However, in less than two years, the government collapsed as Mayawati severed its ties with the SP and joined hands with the BJP. Miffed by the move, irked SP workers allegedly attacked Mayawati when she was holding a meeting with her party workers at a Lucknow guest house on June 2, 1995. Her room was vandalised and she was allegedly abused and beaten up.

It is widely believed that then BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi stepped into the room and saved Mayawati from the ire of SP workers. Reacting to Sadhna Singh's remarks, BSP leader Satish Chandra Misra said BJP leaders have lost their mental balance since the BSP and SP decided to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together.

"The words she used for our party chief shows the level of BJP. After the announcement of this coalition (SP-BSP), BJP leaders have lost their mental balance and they should be admitted to mental hospitals in Agra and Bareilly," Mishra said.
