Jaipur, November 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections 2018. The party has named candidates from six constituencies in the latest list, with senior leader and key Vasundhara Raje aide, Yunus Khan, pitted against Congress state president Sachin Pilot. The top leaders will clash for the Tonk assembly seat.
Among other candidates named by the party in this list, include Mukesh Goyel from Kotputli, O P Saini from Karauli, Mohit Yadav from Behror, Rajendra Vinayaka from Kekri and Ramchandra Utta from Khinwsar. Khan, the most powerful member in the Rajasthan cabinet after Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, was so far not issued a ticket, leading to speculations that he has fallen apart with the BJP high command. The party had also faced flak for not fielding a single Muslim candidate.
Earlier, the BJP had named Ajit Mehta from the Tonk constituency to take on Sachin Pilot. However, late night celebrations on Sunday compelled the party to make the last-minute change.
Notably, today is the last day to file nominations for the upcoming polls -- slated on December 7. The results of the high-stake elections will be declared on December 11.
The poll battle will be highlighted by at least two high-key electoral fights -- BJP turncoat Manvendra Singh taking on CM Raje on Congress ticket in Jhalrapatan, and Khan clashing with Pilot in Tonk, where nearly 47 per cent of the electorate are Muslims.
