Aizwal, November 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the list of 24 candidates for upcoming assembly elections in Mizoram. On October 24, the Congress announced candidates for all 40 assembly seats. Mizoram's incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla will contest from Champhai South seat, and Assembly Speaker Hiphei will fight from Palak seat. Mizoram is the only state in the entire North-East where the Congress is in power presently. Chief Minister Lalthanhawla and his party are confident of retaining the power. In the previous elections, the ruling party Congress won 34 seats out of 40, while, Mizo National Front (MNF) managed to bag only five seats. One seat is won by Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC).In 2008 also, the Congress managed to gain the majority in the assembly with 32 seats. If we talk about the vote share of 2013 elections, the ruling party received 44.6 percent of votes, while the MNF managed to get only 28.7 percent of votes. The MPC gained negligible 6.2 percent votes. In these elections, the main contest will be seen between the Congress and the MNF.
The BJP also announced its first list of candidates for Madhya Pradesh and Telangana assembly elections on Friday. Out of 230 seats the party released the names of 177 candidates for the elections in Madhya Pradesh, while it also released names of 28 candidates for Telangana elections.
The assembly elections in Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh will be conducted on November 28. Meanwhile, Rajasthan, Telangana will undergo assembly elections on December 7. Voting for the first phase of Chhattisgarh elections will be held on November 12 in 18 districts and in Northern Chhattisgarh, it will be held on November 20. The counting of votes for all the states will be done on December 11.
