Meerut, April 3: Another Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader joined a growing list of politicians making sexist comments over Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi's clothes. Addressing a public meeting in Uttar Pradesh Meerut on Tuesday, BJP leader Jayakaran Gupta said the woman who used to wear skirt was visiting temple wearing sari, in an apparent reference to Priyanka Gandhi.

"A Congress leader is asking 'Where is Achhe Din?'. He can't see Acche Din that a woman who used to wear skirt now wears sari and is visiting temples. Those who avoided Gangajal are now drinking it," Gupta said in an apparent reference to Priyanka Gandhi who has been given responsibility to spearhead Congress party's campaign in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, BJP MP Harish Dwivedi had made sexist and misogynistic remarks. Sexist Remarks Continue; ‘BJP Making Hema Malini Dance for Votes’, Says Congress Leader Sajjan Verma on Comments Against Priyanka Gandhi.

"Priyanka Gandhi wears jeans and top in Delhi but when she comes to rural areas she is clad in a sari and wears sindoor," Dwivedi told reporters in his constituency, a day before she visited Lucknow for the first time after taking over as Congress general secretary. "For BJP or for me, Priyanka Gandhi is not an issue as Rahul Gandhi is already a failure and Priyanka will also prove to be a failure soon," he added. Priyanka Gandhi's Entry in Active Politics: 'BJP is Scared', Says Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

In January, BJP MLA Surendra Singh called Priyanka Gandhi Surpanakha and her brother, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Raavan. Bihar Minister Vinod Narayan Jha had said that Priyanka was just beautiful and had no other talent. "Votes cannot be won on the basis of beautiful faces. Moreover, she is the wife of Robert Vadra who is accused of involvement in a land scam case and several corruption cases. She's very beautiful. But other than that she holds no political achievement or talent," Jha had remarked.
