Lucknow, January 30: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Uttar Pradesh’s Bairya constituency Surendra Singh has stirred controversy on Wednesday. The BJP MLA referred Congress President Rahul Gandhi as “Ravana” and party’s general secretary for UP East Priyanka Gandhi as the “Surpanakha”, the mythological demon’s sister. The BJP MLA's quote is also getting circulated on WhatsApp groups. Singh also called Congress a sinking ship. Taking a swipe at the grand old party, he said that the Congress managed to come to power in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh due to SC/ST Act. Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi to Login Into Facebook, Twitter Accounts Soon.

Singh also compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lord Ram. Talking to reporters, the BJP MLA said, that when the war to win Lanka was about to begin between Lord Ram and Ravana, the demon king had first sent his sister Surpanakha. He added that Rahul Gandhi is playing the role of Ravana and Modi is playing the role of Lord Ram and the battle is to win Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, it is not the first time that BJP leaders attacked the new elected Congress General Secretary. Last week, Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said that the grand old party is fielding "chocolaty" faces in Lok Sabha polls it has a shortage of strong leaders. Vijayvargiya during his media interaction in Indore, told reporters, “A Congress leader demands that Kareena Kapoor should be fielded from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat. Sometimes others talk about fielding Salman Khan from Indore. Likewise, Priyanka (Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) was also brought into active politics.”

A day before Vijayavargiya’s comments another BJP leader and Bihar Minister Vinod Narain Jha had said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no other quality except being "very beautiful" and the Congress should remember that beauty does not garner votes. Priyanka was appointed as Congress General Secretary for Eastern Uttar Pradesh on January 23. According to reports, she is likely to begin her formal political career after taking a holy dip in the Ganga at the Kumbh Mela on February 4.
