New Delhi, November 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday filed a complaint with Election Commission of India (ECI) against the former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah over his comments against BC Patil, BJP candidate from Hirekerur assembly bypoll. The by-elections would be held on December 5 in the 15 seats which went vacant after Karnataka ex-speaker KR Ramesh disqualified 17 MLAs. Dates for two assembly seats are yet to be announced. On Wednesday, addressing a Congress rally in Hirekerur, Siddaramaiah targeted disqualified MLA and BJP candidate BC Patil and sought an answer from him on the reasons of joining BJP. "Patil had earlier said that BJP leaders had offered him money to join the party. Now, he should explain why he had joined that party," Siddaramaiah said reported The Hindu.

The former Chief Minister also appealed to people to teach him a lesson for backstabbing Congress. In Karnataka Bypolls 2019, the BJP in 13 seats has fielded Congress-JD(S) turncoats. BS Yediyurappa-led government needs to win at least six of the 15 seats to maintain its majority in the 224-state assembly.
In bypolls 2019, the Congress has fielded BH Bannikod from the Hirekerur assembly constituency, while BJP has given the ticket to BC Patil. In 2018, Patil won the seat for the Indian National Congress with a margin of 555 votes.
