New Delhi, October 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday took a dig at Congress senior leader Shashi Tharoor for criticizing External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's speech at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Tharoor described Swaraj's speech as 'disappointing' and said it 'failed to project India's constructive image'. UN: Sushma Swaraj Discusses Strategic Cooperation, Trade, Development at Bilaterals.

Responding to Tharoor's comment, BJP spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference, "Today, (Rahul) Gandhi’s Congress has lost the moral right to claim the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi’s Congress. We would want Gandhi to apologize for Tharoor's remarks."

However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala was quick to take a dig at the BJP. “For those in power, (Mahatma) Gandhi’s thought is just a lip service. Those in power murder Gandhi’s thought. They swear by Gandhi only for optics and photo-op,” Surjewala said in Wardha.

The External Affairs Minister in her UNGA speech said that many attempts were made to hold talks with Pakistan but the only reason to call off it was Islamabad's behaviour.

However, Trivedi said that Congress is increasingly seen standing with Pakistan. Just like Pakistan questioned on Surgical strikes similarly Rahul Gandhi asked for proof. Mahatma Gandhi who always spoke of Ram Rajya and the Congress has filed an affidavit on Supreme Court in 2007 questioning the existence of Lord Ram. Trivedi said.

“Facts show that Congress is seen doing a jugalbandi with Pakistan. There is not a single Congress leader, other than Lala Lajpat Rai, who went to jail, got injured or was hanged during the freedom struggle. The Congress’ claim of monopoly over freedom movement needs to be revisited.”
