Biplab Kumar Deb to be Next Chief Minister of Tripura, Narendra Modi Likely to Attend Oath Taking Ceremony on Friday

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made it official that BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for Tripura is Biplab Kumar Deb while Jishnu Deb Burman Will work with as the deputy CM of the state.

Agartala, March 6: Biplab Kumar Deb- 48-year old Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tripura on Friday. Meanwhile, Jishnu Deb Burman will work with as the deputy CM of the state.  48-year-old Deb has been elected by party legislators as their leader in the state assembly. As per reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the swearing-in ceremony.

On Monday, Deb said that the state’s Chief Minister will be selected democratically. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who is leading the BJP delegation to the Raj Bhawan, where Deb will stake claim to form a government.  Deb is well known for building the party from scratch in Tripura. As per a BJP assessment in 2017, the party claimed that Biplab Deb was more popular than Manik Sarkar in Tripura.

Earlier in the day, Conrad Sangma was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Sangma, who leads BJP ally the NPP (National People's Party) took charge as the 12th chief minister with a rare alliance of five parties.

On Saturday, BJP posted a stunning victory by winning 35 of Tripura's 60 assembly seats - 43 along with a regional ally. As per election results, the BJP and its ally scripted history by ending the 25-year reign of the Left Front led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) with a two-thirds majority in the Tripura legislative assembly elections.

Deb, who is being seen as a front-runner for the coveted post, said that the BJP’s newly elected legislators will unanimously take the decision in the regard. “Legislature members will decide who should be made the Chief Minister in a democratic way as BJP believes in democracy,” Deb told ANI.
