Bihar Shelter Home Rape Case: Nitish Kumar Blames 'Flawed System', Attacks Opposition Over Candlelight March, Dismisses 'Cover-up' Allegations
Nitish, emphasising on the 'flaw' in the system, said that the responsibility of such incidents lies with those who were involved in managing the system of such shelter homes. He also said that NGO's should not be engaged in the system.
Patna, August 6: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a press conference on Monday, lashed out on the Opposition parties in Bihar and has blamed the system responsible for the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Rape Case. Even as the Bihar shelter home rape case continues to be raised in the Lok Sabha on Monday and the Opposition targets the BJP-JDU, Nitish Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Opposition and said that, "We came to know about the incident after an internal investigation into Muzaffarpur case and we started a CBI inquiry." Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday collected all the evidence from the local police and is looking to get in touch with the TISS audit report team in Mumbai.
Terming the incident shameful, Nitish Kumar also took a dig at the recent dharna (protest) at Jantar Mantar, led by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to protest against the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Rape Case. The Bihar Chief Minister said that "The people who were sitting on the dharna for the Muzaffarpur victims were laughing."
When questioned on the alleged role of Manju Verma, the Minister of Social Welfare in the Bihar Cabinet, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that one must wait for the investigations to get completed. He added that "Only after the investigation concludes can we say what punishment will be given to Manju Verma".
Nitish, emphasising on the "flaw" in the system, said that the responsibility of such incidents lies with those who were involved in managing the system of such shelter homes. Nitish, clearly said that NGO's should not be engaged in the system. He questioned that "Why should we use an NGO? The government should spend money to build houses and hire people to take care of these children."
Nitish told everyone to apply their minds and said that if any mantri (Minister) is involved in the case, the "minister will also go." He said that if any decision has been taken on the ministerial level, than the investigation will bring it out. Attacking the opposition for politicising the issue, Nitish said that "The people protesting the Muzaffarnagar case do not want to fight corruption, they wish to stay in power and continue corruption."
