Patna, May 24: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), sans its leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, failed to open its account in Lok Sabha Elections 2019. This is the first time that the party has not managed to win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha polls in its history. On Thursday, as the results of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 started to emerge and become clear, the Congress-RJD alliance came in for a huge shock as the BJP led NDA comprising JD(U), LJP and other parties looked set to win 39 out of 40 seats in the state.

The only seat that the UPA managed to win is the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat won by Congress's Dr Mohammad Javed. But RJD could not manage to win even a single seat.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), formed in the year 1997 by former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, had been a formidable force in Bihar since its inception. However, with the growing legal troubles of RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case and his failing health, the responsibility fell on a young and inexperienced Tejashwi Yadav.

Soon there were reports of family feud over the issue of succession as Lalu's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav threatened rebellion and continued with his antics in the public. The Congress could not help the sinking ship of RJD either, as the grand old party itself struggled with its own issues in Bihar.

With most of the exit polls predicting a BJP led NDA getting anywhere between 34 to 38 seats out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the situation looked dim for the Congress-RJD alliance. However, the results confirmed the RJD rout in Bihar and Tejashwi Yadav has an uphill task at hand trying to revive the RJD in Bihar to help it recover the lost ground.
