Bihar Encephalitis Outbreak: JDU MP Defends Health Minister Mangal Pandey Who Asked About India vs Pakistan Match Score at Meeting
Mangal Pandey has been facing flak for his display of "insensitivity".
Patna, June 18: Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav on Tuesday defended Bihar Health Minister Mandal Pandey who was seen asking the score of the World Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan during a meeting which was organised to appraise the Encephalitis outbreak in Muzaffarpur that has claimed over 100 lives so far. Mangal Pandey has been facing flak for his display of "insensitivity".
"During India vs Pakistan matches, there's nationalism in people's heart. They want India to win. They did everything seriously in the meeting and asked for the score in between. Opposition's allegations aren't true," Yadav told news agency ANI. The JD-U lawmaker from Madhepura blamed the delay in arrival of Monsoon in the state for the Encephalitis outbreak. Over 100 children have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). All About the Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Prevention of Encephalitis.
"The Muzaffarpur incident is unfortunate. Since many years whenever summer season comes, children get sick and the number of deaths grows. The government makes arrangements but it happens every year. Once the rains start, it will stop," Yadav said. A video of the meeting in which Pandey can be seen asking the question about India vs Pakistan match was also embedded in the tweet which has the region-wise death toll in the state. Despite Encephalitis plaguing parts of Bihar, Pandey couldn’t control the urge to ask for an update on the India-Pakistan cricket match during a meeting with central ministers over the outbreak of the disease. The opposition RJD, Congress, HAM and Left parties leaders have demanded Pandey's resignation for his display of "insensitivity".
