Bihar Assembly Bypoll Results 2019: BJP Wins Dehri constituency, JDU Bags Nawada Vidhan Sabha Seats

The counting of votes for bypolls in two assembly seats in Bihar will place on today, i.e. May 23. The Election Commission will declare the result by the evening.

Patna, May 23: The counting of votes for bypolls in two assembly seats in took place today, i.e. May 23. The two assembly seats which went for polling are -  Dehri and Nawada. The polling in Nawada took place on April 11 in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, while in Dehri the voting took place on May 19, the last phase of Lok Sabha elections. Bharatiya Janata Party's Satyanarayan Singh bagged Dehri assembly seat, while Janata Dal United's Kaushal Yadav won Nawada assembly seat. Catch complete coverage of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 here.

Both the seats felt vacant after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA's Raj Vallabh Yadav and Mohammed Ilyasi Hussain of Nawada and Dehri assembly seats respectively were disqualified. In 2015 Bihar assembly elections, the JD(U) won 71 seats, RJD 80, Congress 17 and BJP 53. Nitish Kumar, who joined the grand alliance, became chief minister despite winning fewer seats than the RJD. Two years later, he quit the grand alliance and formed a new government with the support of the BJP.

Meanwhile, exit polls results of the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar predicted the BJP-JDU-LJP alliance victory.  According to the various exit polls, the BJP and its alliance is expected to win 31 seats while, the mahagathbandhan comprising the Congress, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others is likely to win remaining nine seats.
