Mumbai, October 27: Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira, who are accused in the Bhima Koregaon violence case, have been sent to Police custody till November 6 by the Pune Sessions Court on Saturday, October 27. Public Prosecutor Ujwala Pawar, representing the Maharashtra government in the case, had demanded 14 days of police custody of Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira.

On Friday, a Pune sessions court rejected the bail applications filed by activists Sudha Bharadwaj, Arun Ferreira and Vernon Gonsalves. The three activists along with others, were arrested by the Pune city police on August 28 in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence case on January 1. Pune police has also alleged that the activists have links with the naxals and the maoists. On October 24, the Pune Sessions Court had said that it would pronounce its verdict on bail applications of Gonsalves, Ferreira and Bharadwaj on Friday. All the three activists were under house arrest which ended on Friday. The bail applications were rejected by the Pune sessions court on Friday, October 26. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi will on October 29 hear Maharashtra government's plea challenging a Bombay High Court order that refused to grant more time to the Pune Police for filing charge sheet against activists arrested in connection with the case.
