Bhavesh Patel, one of the accused in the 2007 Ajmer Dargah blast case, who has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, received a hero's welcome in Bharuch after he returned home on bail. A video shows large number of people welcoming Patel, including BJP and VHP office bearers according to reports.

Bhavesh Patel of Bharuch and Devendra Gupta of Ajmer were sentenced for life for their role in the Ajmer Dargah blast that took place in 2007. The Rajasthan High Court granted bail to the two after their lawyers argued that their clients had been covicted due to "human probability and circumstantial evidence." BJP's Surbhiben Tamakuwala, President of the Bharuch municipality, along with councillor Marutisinh Atodariya and Viral Desai of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and several members of the RSS were present to 'welcome' Bhavesh.

In July, Union Minister Jayant Sinha kicked up a storm after he was caught on camera welcoming and garlanding the convicts in the lynching case. The union minister was seen felicitating and offering sweets to the convicts when they came out of the jail after obtaining bail. According to media reports, all the convicts who were seen getting a warm welcome by the minister, were convicted in the case of killing a meat trader in Ramgarh, Jharkhand in 2017.
