Bhatpara Trust Vote: TMC Wins No-Confidence Motion Against Civic Body Chairman Sourav Singh as BJP Councillors Fail to Arrive to Cast Votes
The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday won the no-confidence motion for the controversial Bhatpara Municipal Elections against BJP leader and Civic Body Chairman Sourav Singh. by a margin of 19-0.
Kolkata, January 7: The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday won the trust vote for the controversial Bhatpara Municipal Elections. The TMC managed to win the no-confidence motion by a margin of 19 votes against Bhatpara Municipality chairman and BJP leader Sourav Singh. The voting took place a day after the division bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Pratikprakash Banerjee directed the state police to take all measures for security at this confidence meeting.
Informing more about the updates, state food and supplies minister Jyotipriyo Mullick said, As news agency PTI, "A no-trust vote was held on Tuesday afternoon and we won it by a margin of 19-0. The BJP Councillors didn't participate in the proceedings." Currently, Bhatpara Municipality has an effective strength of 32 out of total 35 wards. Following the High Court order, a confidence vote took place in Bhatpara Municipality amid high security and Councillors were asked to cast their vote. After this, the voting took place and counting of votes were done. Reports state that, BJP Councillors did not arrive to cast their votes. BJP in the meanwhile, is mulling to move Supreme Court regarding the matter.
