Bharatpur is in Bharatpur district and Matsya region of Rajasthan. It is recognised as a urban seat. In the 2013 assembly elections, Vijay Bansal (Pappu Banda) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the seat by a margin of 22,694 votes. Vijay Bansal (Pappu Banda) secured 38.94% of the total votes polled. In the single-phase elections held on Friday, Rajasthan recorded a voter turnout of 74.21 per cent -- marginally below 74.38 per cent recorded in 2013. Post-poll surveys had predicted a full majority win for the Congress.
