Mumbai, March 24: The Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha election result was announced by the Election Commission today. BJP candidate Sunil Baburao Mendhe won Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra. A high-stakes electoral battle witnessed between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Bhandara–Gondiya Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra. Polling for Lok Sabha election in Bhandara–Gondiya parliamentary seat was held on April 11 in the first phase of general polls.

In 2014 Lok Sabah election, BJP leader Nana Patole defeated NCP strongman Praful Patel by a margin of 1.5 lakh. However, a by-election was held in May 2018 after Patole quit the BJP and joined the Congress. In by-poll, NCP’s Madhukar Kukde defeated BJP's Hemant Patle by 48,000 votes. This time, the BJP nominated Sunil Baburao Mendhe against NCP's Panchabudhe Nana Jairam. The NCP is contesting 20 seats, while its ally the Congress will fight on 24 seats. The Congress-NCP alliance have decided to accommodate some of the smaller partners by leaving aside four seats out of the total 48 constituencies in the state. The BJP and Shiv Sena are contesting 25 and 23 seats respectively. Lok Sabha elections will take place in seven phases - on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
