The results of the Berhampur Lok Sabha election will be declared today. The counting of votes began on the Parliamentary seat in Odisha at 8 am on Thursday, May 23. Voting for the Berhampur seat took place in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Berhampur is one of the Lok Sabha Constituency of Odisha. The constituency currently comprises seven assembly seats - Chatrapur, Gopalpur, Berhampur, Chikiti, Digapahandi, Mohana and Parlakhemundi. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fielded Chandra Shekhar Sahu from Berhampur, while V Chandrasekhar Naidu contested on the Congress ticket. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a ticket to Brughu Baxipatra. The last date of filing nomination for the seat was March 25. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on March 26. In 2014, BJD's Siddhanta Mahapatra defeated Sahu of the Congress with a massive margin of over one lakh votes. While, BJP's Rama Chandra Panda came third.  In 2009 also, Mahapatra had won this seat. From 1962 to 1998, the Congress had won all the Lok Sabha elections from this seat.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. Odisha is also going for assembly polls along with the parliamentary elections.
