Bengaluru, July 23: Bengaluru police commissioner Alok Kumar said that all the “bars, pubs and wine shops” will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, in view of the political situation in Karnataka. The commissioner clarified that the prohibition will be in effect from 6 PM today, Tuesday. The prohibition has been put into effect to avoid clashes between the BJP and JDS workers, after clashes were reported from various spots. The Congress-JDS coalition lost the trust vote by 99-105 votes.
“Today and tomorrow we are imposing Section 144 across the city.All pubs, wine shops will be closed till 25th. If anyone is found violating these rules, they will be punished,” said commissioner Alok Kumar.
HD Kumaraswamy delivered an emotional speech in the assembly. “I won't talk about the developments over the past 10 days. Krishna Byregowda has already spoken at length about the legal and constitutional position,” said Kumaraswamy during his long speech.
The Karnataka chief minister broke down during his speech in the assembly. However, HD Kumaraswamy made it clear after his emotional speech that he will be facing the trust vote and not resign.
“HD Kumaraswamy has failed the confidence vote, with 99 voting for the government while 105 members have voted against the government,” Speaker KR Ramesh said after the headcount.
