Raipur, December 11: The countdown has begun, and the Election Commission has started the counting of votes for Chhattisgarh – went to polls in the recently contested Assembly elections 2018. The poll battle in these six constituencies – Bastar (ST), Jagdalpur, Chitrakoot (ST), Dantewada (ST), Bijapur (ST), Konta (ST) – is primarily wedged between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, AAP and BSP-Janta Congress alliance. Bastar (ST): For this reserved and sensitive seat, Congress has repeated it’s sitting MLA Lakheshwar Baghel against BJP’s Dr Subhau Kashyap. Janta Congress has fielded Sonsay Kashyap, and AAP has given the ticket to Jagmohan Baghel. Check here for live results.
Jagdalpur: For this reserved seat, both BJP and Congress have fielded their post graduate candidates. BJP has chosen to contest with sitting MLA Santosh Bafna, while Congress has fielded Rekhchand Jain by replacing him with Shamu Kashyap. Chitrakoot (ST): Here, Congress has repeated its sitting postgraduate lawmaker Deepak Kumar Baij, while BJP has replaced their candidate. They have fielded a graduate candidate Lachhuram Kashyap, instead of happening Baiduram Kashyap. Dantewada (ST): Considered as one of the most sensitive constituency. For this seat, Congress has repeated its sitting MLA Devti Karma, who defeated BJP’s Bhima Ram Mandavi in 2013. This time too, BJP has given the ticket to

Bijapur (ST): From this constituency, both BJP and Congress have repeated their candidates. BJP has repeated its sitting MLA Mahesh Gagda against Congress’ Vikram Mandavi. Konta (ST): For this reserved seat, Congress and BJP have repeated their respective candidates. Congress has fielded sitting MLA Kawasi Lakhma, while BJP has fielded Dhaniram Barse again. BSP has fielded Kartami Budhram, while AAP is testing its field with Ramdev Baghel. Also, CPI has fielded a postgraduate candidate Manish Kunjam, from this seat. The counting of votes is expected to conclude in the next few hours, with the Election Commission of India scheduled to declare the final results by the end of the day. In case of a BJP victory, Dr Raman Singh would continue to remain the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. If the Congress succeeds in routing the saffron camp, the party is expected to take a cautious decision on choosing the CM, while BSP-Janta Congress Alliance might choose Ajit Jogi as their CM candidate.
