Barmer is one of the key Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajasthan. The voting for the parliamentary polls 2019 on this seat will take place in the fourth phase on April 29. Currently, it comprises of eight assembly seats  - Jaisalmer, Sheo. Barmer, Baytoo, Pachpadra, Siwana, Gudha Malani and Chohtan. In 2014 election, BJP candidate Sona Ram had won from Ajmer Lok Sabha Constituency defeating Independent candidate Jaswant Singh. Singh was also a former union minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet. Meanwhile, in 2009 elections, Harish Chaudhary had bagged the seat on the Congress ticket.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. The polls will be held in 1,035,918 polling stations across the country compared to 928,000 set up during the last Lok Sabha election in 2014.
