'Bar Narendra Modi From Campaigning For 48-72 Hours': Congress Delegation Meets EC, Alleges MCC Violation by PM
The Congress party has charged the Prime Minister of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by allegedly reaching out to the electorate while the voting was underway in Ahmedabad.
New Delhi, April 23: A Congress delegation headed by senior party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi met the Election Commission officials in the national capital, submitting their complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi who held a "mini roadshow" and addressed the press in Ahmedabad after casting his vote.
The Congress party has charged the Prime Minister of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by allegedly reaching out to the electorate while the voting was underway. The poll code bars any form of electioneering in election-bound constituencies for 48 hours preceding the end of the voting period. 'Narendra Modi Running Country Or Playing PUBG?' "Today after casting his vote, PM took out a long procession and delivered a speech. There has never been such a clear violation of MCC, he is a habitual offender. We appealed to the Election Commission to bar him from campaigning for 48-72 hours," Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.
All the 26 parliamentary segments in Modi's home state Gujarat went to polls on Tuesday, in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The Prime Minister reached the polling booth in Gandhinagar's Ranip in an open-jeep, instead of the bullet-proof vehicle. Throughout the way, he waved at the voters. After casting his booth, Modi was seen interacting outside the polling stations with the BJP candidate Amit Shah. The PM then lifted Shah's granddaughter and again waved to the electorate.
