New Delhi, October 4: On the 37th day of the daily hearings in the contentious Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute case, a lawyer of Muslim parties said that details about the mediation process were leaked on Twitter. Senior Advocate Rajiv Dhawan, who is representing the Muslim stakeholders in the Ayodhya case, on Friday, said that opinions expressed during the mediation process were not kept confidential. "Evidence and opinions were leaked on Twitter," Dhawan told the Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi. The apex court, on September 18, had said that mediation and daily hearing in the case can continue simultaneously to develop a consensus between all Hindu and Muslim parties. Sunni Waqf Board and Nirvani Akhara had sought resumption of negotiation for a settlement.
The mediation panel, headed by former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla, stalled talks on July 29 after making no headways. The panel started meetings with both Hindu and Muslim parties on March 8 and continued negotiations for 155 days. Negotiations hit roadblock reportedly because of the hardline stand taken by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind VHP-backed Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.
After the mediation panel couldn't strike a deal, the Supreme Court started daily hearing in the case. Hindu parties have completed arguments, while the apex court was hearing Muslim parties' arguments. The top court wants to conclude final arguments by October 18. "Let us make a joint effort to conclude the same by Oct 18," Chief Justice Gogoi had said last month.
