Lucknow, April 27: Days after attacking Rampur district magistrate Anujaneya Kumar Singh and Superintendent of police Shiv Hari Meena alleging that polling in Rampur was marred by media persons being thrashed by police officials, case has been registered against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for 'violating Model Code of Conduct at a rally in Shahabad, Rampur'.

Briefing more about the development, Circle Officer of Milak in Rampur - Saloni Agarwal - said, "Comments made by Azam Khan on 25 April were found to be in violation of MCC and a case was registered against him & 2 others." the polling in Rampur witnessed 60 per cent voting in the Third Phase.  Azam Khan's Son Abdullah Attacks Jaya Prada, Says 'We Want Ali And Bajrangbali But Not Anarkali'. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Azam Khan addressed a press conference and said, as quoted by TOI, "The authorities had hatched a conspiracy to kill me and my workers. They had provoked party workers. The police then barged into their houses and assaulted them. We are going to register a complaint against the concerned police officials and demand medical examination of those who were assaulted."

Adding more, he had stated, "In order to prevent the voters in the Mulsim dominated areas, police personnel had damaged tyres of e-rickshaws and even vehicles of voters. I was also not allowed to speak."

However, Rampur DM Singh quashed the allegations of Khan. He said, "These are baseless allegations. Media persons were not thrashed by police officials. We instructed to teh media to maintain a 200m distance from the polling booth, but he started interacting with them very close to the polling area. No one was assaulted."
