The demand for an ordinance or legislation for Ram Temple construction gained pace on Monday, when the Supreme Court deferred the proceedings of the case till January 2019.
New Delhi, October 31: In a fresh push for Ram Mandir on the disputed site in Ayodhya, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh issued a statement on Wednesday asking the Narendra Modi-led central government of acquiring the contested land and passing a legislation for constructing a grand temple.
"The government needs to acquire land for the construction of Ram Temple and make a law in this regard," said the RSS' statement, which came a day after senior Sangh functionaries said they would be supporting the Ayodhya seers agitating for an ordinance to surpass judicial nod for the Ram Mandir. Ram Mandir Via Ordinance or Law: Will Modi Government Adopt Somnath Route For Ayodhya?
The demand for an ordinance or legislation for Ram Temple construction gained pace on Monday, when the Supreme Court deferred the proceedings of the case. The bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi declared that the matter would be taken up for hearing only in January 2019.
Senior BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath publicly marked his dissent to the apex court's order, asserting that "justice delayed is equivalent to justice being denied".
Yogi's remarks evoked a sharp reaction from AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, appealing him to show similar "eagerness for justice" in cases of anti-minorities pogrom.
On an ordinance or law for Ram Mandir construction, experts claim that such a measure may fail to yield success for proponents of a temple on the disputed site. A legislation is unlikely to rush through as the BJP lacks the majority in Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the ordinance route for Mandir construction could be stalled via a judicial order.
