New Delhi, May 9: The AAP on Thursday accused BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir of distributing "derogatory notes" against his rival from East Delhi, Atishi. While addressing the press, Atishi broke down saying that she never expected the cricketer-turned-politician taking the electoral fight to an unprecedented low. Manish Sisodia Gets Election Commission's Notice Over His Tweet on Atishi's Religion.

The notes, highly defamatory in nature, were reportedly distributed among voters in pockets of the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The content severely denigrates the character of Atishi and levels crass allegations against her.

"I never thought he would stoop so low," Atishi said as she broke down. Senior party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia demanded the Election Commission to take stringent action against Gambhir, saying that he has not only launched an offensive against Atishi, but all women residing in Delhi.

"We would clap for Gambhir when he used to bash opponents with fours and sixes while playing for India but we never in our worst dream, had thought that this man would stoop this low to win an election," Sisodia said.

A copy of the pamphlet is going viral on social media. The content is aimed at defaming Atishi and deteriorate her image before the voters.

However, it could not be verified whether the BJP had published the documents. The AAP is likely to file a formal complaint before the Election Commission. The polling body is expected to inquire into the case.

Gambhir Reacts:

Gambhir has rejected the allegation of circulating the derogatory pamphlet, saying that he would "quit politics" if proven guilty. Instead, he blamed AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of orchestrating the incident ahead of the polls on May 12.

"I declare that if its proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u quit politics," he asked Atishi and Kejriwal on social media.
