The former Prime Minister was admitted to AIIMS on Monday morning for routine check-up according to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the hospital. A number of leaders have been visiting and calling on the BJP stalwart. Congress President Rahul Gandhi went to see the former PM in the evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi left after visiting the hospital moments before. Vajpayee, who has been ailing for some time now, has been undergoing treatment at his residence. He has been taken to AIIMS for routine check-up and investigations. "He will be under the supervision of Dr randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS," said the statement.
The AIIMS administration also issued a statement saying the former prime minister was stable. "Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition is stable and a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS are conducting tests," AIIMS administration said.
Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India from 1998 to 2004. He was also the Prime Minister for 13 days in 1996. He announced retirement from active politics in 2005.
The Narendra Modi government honoured Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the Bharat Ratna in 2014. An orator par excellence, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is known for his speeches. He is also a poet who has several works to his credit.
