New Delhi, Aug 16: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died at the age of 93 at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the 10th Prime Minister of the country, first term for 13 days in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004. He was the first non-Congress Prime Minister to serve a full five-year term.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Family: Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior. His father, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, was a poet and a schoolmaster in his hometown. His mother's name was Krishna Devi. Vajpayee's grandfather, Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee, had migrated to Morena in Gwalior from his ancestral village of Bateshwar in Uttar Pradesh.
Vajpayee had an adopted daughter named Namita Bhattacharya. Rajkumari Kaul was the mother of Vajpayee's adopted daugter. Kaul died in 2014. According to the press note released on the death of Kaul, she was 'household member' of Vajpayee. She was survived by another daughter, Nani, and granddaughter Neharika.
