Assembly Elections 2018: Navjot Singh Sidhu on Campaign Blitzkrieg, Will Hold 20 Rallies in MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan Within a Week

Raipur, November 16: Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu will start campaigning from Friday for the Congress in Chhattisgarh for the second phase of elections. The cricketer-turned-politician is among the several star campaigners selected by the party for campaigning in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. According to reports, the Punjab minister will hold 20 rallies in the three states within a week. “I will start campaigning in Chhattisgarh tomorrow,” Sidhu said on Thursday.  Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2018 Full Schedule And Dates: Polling in 2 Phases, November 12 & 20, Counting of Votes on 11 December

Sidhu today will hold five rallies today. Before his visit to the state, Sidhu paid obeisance at the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu. Sidhu has also been asked to campaign for six days each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The first phase of voting in Chhattisgarh was held for 18 of the 90 Assembly seats on November 12. Polling for the remaining 72 seats will be held on November 20. Madhya Pradesh will undergo election on November 28, while the elections in Rajasthan will take place on December 7. The results are scheduled to be declared by the Election Commission on December 11. Over 76 percent voter turnout was recorded during the first phase.

As many as 190 candidates, including state Chief Minister Raman Singh, were in the fray for 18 of the 90 Assembly seats in Chhattisgarh. Amid voting, at least four Maoists were reportedly killed, and two CRPF personnel suffered bullet wounds after a gunfight broke out near Bijapur’s Majiguda village. According to a survey conducted by ABP News-Lokniti CSDS, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will retain power in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress will have a slight edge in Rajasthan.
