Rajasthan, April 18: The Rajasthan state Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) President Ashok Parnami has resigned from party post as per ANI reports. Parnami has given his resignation to Amit Shah on Wednesday and cited personal reason for doing so. However, party insiders reveal that due to poor performance in the recently held by-elections where party suffered a big jolt, following which the decision has come.
The party, which heads the state government led by Vasundhara Raje, lost the by-elections of both the Lok Sabha seats in Alwar and Ajmer, and the Mandalgarh assembly seat, against Congress. However, in Rajasthan, the elections were fought in the backdrop of the Bollywood film Padmavaat controversy which had enraged the Rajput community. Also, Rajput community accused BJP of not doing enough to stall the release of the movie.
Meanwhile, after Parnami's resignation who will become the next Rajasthan BJP party president is still a secret. However, speculations are that Senior state leaders named state Finance Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Social Welfare Minister Arun Chaturvedi, and Member of Parliament (MP) Om Birla are in race of becoming next state party president. While, Amit Shah is yet to make an official announcement on it.
