Bhopal, May 25: After a video surfaced showing three Muslims being beaten up by self-styled gau rakshaks in Madhya Pradesh, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his claim to have decimated the politics of secularism. Owaisi asked Modi whether Muslims would be subjected to this treatment under his "New India".
"This is how Muslims are treated by Vigilantes created by Modi voters. Welcome to a New India which will be inclusive and as @PMOIndia said Secularism Ka Niqaab...," the Hyderabad lawmaker said, as he tweeted the video of the assault by gau rakshaks in MP's Seoni region. Two Muslim men and a woman, travelling in auto rickshaw in Seoni, were intercepted by a group of cow vigilantes on Friday after being tipped that they were allegedly carrying beef.
The trio were stopped, taken out of the rickshaw and ask to explain whether the meat in their possession was beef. The two men were tied to a pole and beaten up. One of them was forced to beat the woman travelling with them.
The three of them were then forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram" by the rod-wielding gau rakshaks.
Owaisi's remark targeting the Prime Minister over the Seoni incident comes two days after Modi, after being re-elected to power, said he has succeeded in "lifting the veil over secularism" in the last five years.
