New Delhi, May 4: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was slapped by a man during a roadshow in the national capital. The attacker was assaulted by scores of AAP supporters before he was taken into custody by the police. His condition is reported to be stable.
The incident was reported in Moti Nagar area of New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, where the AAP has fielded Brijesh Goyal as its candidate. As Kejriwal's roadshow was moving through the crowd, a man in red t-shirt jumped on his jeep and slapped the Delhi CM. The AAP chief had been attacked earlier as well during the roadshows. While campaigning for the 2015 assembly elections, a rickshaw driver slapped Kejriwal which caused him a brief concussion. Following the assault, Kejriwal traced down the man to learn the reason behind his anger. On meeting the Delhi CM, the attacker broke down and apologised.
In 2016, Kejriwal was attacked with ink by a former AAP worker who accused him of "betraying" the party's principles.
The attacks on Kejriwal, claim AAP spokespersons, is due to the "minimal amount" of security cover used by the Delhi CM while reaching out to the general populace.
