New Delhi, September 26: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday shared pictures of clear and blue skies in the national capital. The photos were taken on top of the iconic Signature Bridge. Sharing the pictures, Kejriwal urged citizens to unite to make Delhi's air free from pollution. "These are pictures of our beautiful Delhi taken today, from the top of the Signature Bridge. It has been many years since I have seen such clear, blue skies. We have to work together to keep Delhi's air clean," the Chief Minister tweeted. Earlier today, Kejriwal also wrote to his counterparts in Haryana and Punjab, along with the Ministry of Environment, to take greater steps to curb crop burning. "I have written letters to CMs of Har/Pun n Union Min of Env seeking urgent steps to deal wid crop burning. I know they are making efforts. But much more needs to be done to stop pollution. Meanwhile, at our level, we r taking steps to reduce pollution caused by local factors (sic)," Kejriwal said in another tweet. Delhi sees hazardous air every year, mainly in winters. Several studies have declared Delhi as the world's most polluted capital city.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government blames stubble burning in neighbouring states of Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh for a decline in Delhi's air quality during winters. In the last three years, pollution in Delhi decreased by 25 per cent, Kejriwal had announced earlier this month. He has also announced the return of 'Odd-Even' scheme for private vehicles from November 4 to 15 to reduce pollution.
The scheme, under which odd-numbered vehicles will be permitted to ply only on odd dates and even-number vehicles only on even days, was earlier enforced by his government twice in 2016 -- first from January 1 to 15 and then from April 15 and 30.
