Delhi, March 19: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has issued an apology to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, just four days after he apologised to Bikram Singh Majithia. The Delhi chief minister's previous apology had kicked a storm in the party after Kejriwal gave a written apology to Majithia whom he had accused of being involved in drug trade. The apology to Majithia led to the resignation of AAP Punjab's state president Bhagwant Mann. Many leaders also voiced their demand for a separate identity for Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party due to the ongoing apology issue.
In the letter issued to Majithia, Kejriwal had written , “In the recent past, I made certain statements and allegations against you regarding your alleged involvement in drug trade. These statements became a political issue. Now, I’ve learnt that allegations are unfounded. Hence, there should be no politics on such issues. I hereby withdrew all my statements and allegations made against you and apologise for the same."
“CM Arvind Kejriwal has tendered an apology to me in the court, for all the baseless and false allegations he and his party levelled against me in drug issue. My mother suffered the most due to all this and this apology is a vindication of her faith in Waheguru’s power of justice,” wrote Majithia after Delhi CM's apology to him.
Arvind Kejriwal has also taken back his words on Nitin Gadkari and Congress leader/lawyer Kapil Sibal. According to experts and political commentators, Kejriwal is doing this to reduce his legal troubles as defamation cases against him have been piling and he is trying to avoid the cost of legal cases by saying sorry to the leaders. One wonders if Arun Jaitley will be the next leader he will apologise to as the Finance Minister has filed a defamation case against Kejriwal in Delhi court.
