New Delhi, October 1: A day after facing criticism for his comments on "outsiders in Delhi", Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday issued a clarification that his government never denied medical treatment or education to anyone. However, Kejriwal opined that he wants the educational and medical facilities like Delhi to be provided in the rest of the country as well

Issuing a clarification, Kejriwal said, "We have never denied medical treatment or education to anyone. We're happy, if we can help needy people, give them treatment, and educate children, be it any citizen of the country. We want educational and medical facilities like Delhi to be provided in the rest of the country as well." Earlier on Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party convenor had said that residents of Delhi have to stand in long queues in hospitals because many patients from other states come here for treatment. He had added that it was good to see people from other states availing healthcare services provided by the Delhi government.

Citing the example of the people from Bihar in his controversial comment, the Delhi CM had said on Monday: "One person from Bihar buys a ticket to Delhi for Rs 500, returns after availing treatment worth Rs 5 lakh. While this makes us happy that these are the people of our country, Delhi has its own capacity. How can Delhi serve the people of the entire country, so there is a need for improving the healthcare facilities across the nation? It is a matter of great pride and happiness for us that the people of the entire country have confidence in Delhi government hospitals."

Kejriwal made the remarks on Sunday at the foundation-laying ceremony of a 362-bed trauma centre at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. He further asserted that Delhi's healthcare model is being built upon that of Denmark. Following this statement, furore began in the political arena.
