New Delhi, December 31: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today trained guns at the Congress over Sohrabuddin Sheikh Encounter case. The Finance Minister in his blog wrote, “The Congress President Sh. Rahul Gandhi on the day of the judgement raised the issue that nobody killed Sohrabudin. It would have been more appropriate if he had asked the right question, namely who killed Sohrabudin case investigation, he would have got the right answer.”
Jaitley also enclosed a letter which he had written to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 alleging politicisation of the case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) along with his blog. Jaitley while taking a dig at the grand old party wrote, “Those who have recently shown a belated concern for institutional independence should seriously introspect as to what they did to the CBI when they were in power.”
On December 21, a court in Mumbai dismissed pleas of witness seeking re-examination into the Sohrabuddin encounter case. The court also acquitted all 22 accused in the case due to the lack of evidence. The CBI court in its verdict pronounced that prosecution was unable to prove a conspiracy. The court also observed that circumstantial evidence is not substantial in spite of three investigations. Among the prime accused in the case was BJP national president Amit Shah -- who was acquitted in 2014.
