Arrest Warrant Against Chandrababu Naidu, 15 Others in 2010 TDP Babli Project Agitation Case

An arrest warrant has been issued by Maharashtra's Dharmabad Court against Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu, irrigation minister and 14 others in connection with an agitation held by the Naidu led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2010 against the Maharashtra govt opposing the construction of Babli project. The TDP had organised the protest alleging that the Babli project would make seven districts in the state of Telangana a "desert."

The order was issued by the judicial first class magistrate of Dharmanand in Nanded district, N R Gajbhiye. The court also instructed the police to arrest all the accused in the case and ordered that all the accused be produced in the court by September 21.

CM Naidu and his party workers, who were then in the opposition in united Andhra, had staged a protest near the Babli project site in Maharashtra in the year 2010. Naidu and his party- TDP workers were arrested and lodged in a Pune jail for the agitation held by them.

The court's order was issed on a petition filed by a Maharashtra resident.

Apart from Naidu, state Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and minister of social wlefare and former MLA G Kamalakar were also booked in the case.

Naidu's son N Lokesh, who is the state Technology Information Minister, said that the TDP leaders booked in the case including Chandrababu Naidu would attend the court in connection with the case.

Speaking on the case, Lokesh said that Chandrababu Naidu protested and fought for the people of Telangana and even denied bail in the case. The TDP leaders and Naidu had refused bail in the case after they were arrested and eventually released.
