Hyderabad, May 23: Results for the Arakkonam Lok Sabha Constituency in Tamil Nadu has been declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI). S Jagathrakshakan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has won the seat. The counting of votes for the this constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. This is one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which went to poll on April 18 in the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

The Arakkonam Parliamentary Constituency in Tamil Nadu is located in Vellore and Thiruvallur districts of the southern state. The constituency number of the this constituency is 7 and is not reserved for any category, which means it falls in General Category.  According to 2011 census, out of total 1889129 population 60.03% is rural and 39.97% is urban population. All the 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu will go to polls in the second phase on April 18. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. The last day of filing the nominations is March 26 while the lastt day of withdrawal of candidature is March 29. The scrutiny of nomination will be held on March 27.

In the 2014 General Elections, Hari G of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Elango, N.R. Hari had won with 493,534 votes. The voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha election in this constituency was 77.74% where as it was 77.82% in 2009 Parliamentary Election. According to reports, the AIADMK, the BJP, the DMK and the INC got 45.32%, -%, 23.21% and 5.17% votes respectively in 2014-parliamentary election while -%, -%, 48.65% and -% in 2009-parliamentary election respectively.
