Andhra Pradesh Reserves 75% Private Jobs For Local Youths, Becomes First State to Provide Quota For Pvt Employment

With the passing of Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019, Andhra Pradesh becomes the first state to reserve 75 percent jobs for local youths in various private sectors.

Amaravati, July 23: With the passing of Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019, Andhra Pradesh becomes the first state to reserve 75 percent jobs for local youths in various private sectors. Under the newly-passed Act, 75 percent jobs in industrial units, factories, joint ventures and projects set up under public-private partnership mode will be reserved for locals.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised a quota for locals in jobs during his state-wide tour. The Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019, clarifies that private sector firms mentioned above will have to fill 75 percent vacancy with local employees irrespective of whether or not they get financial or other help from the government. Rajnath Singh, Jagan Mohan Reddy Review Progress of Infrastructural Projects in Andhra.

The Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act further states if locals don't possess required skills then the companies must train them in association with the state government and then hire them, TOI reported. The clause wouldn't let companies hide behind the excuse of not finding skilled local labourers. Companies will have to implement the directives within three years of the commencement of the Act. They will have to submit quarterly reports about local appointments to a nodal agency as well. There has been a demand for reserving jobs for locals in several other states as well.
