Amit Shah Meets Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree in Mumbai as Part of BJP's Sampark For Samarthan
The meeting between the two leaders was held at Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence in Matoshree, Bandra (east). The BJP Chief was accompanied by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danve, and Maharashtra’s education minister and Mumbai’s guardian minister Vinod Tawde.
Mumbai, June 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Wednesday met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai as part of BJP's outreach programme ‘Sampark for Samarthan Abhiyan’. The meeting between the two leaders was held at Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence in Matoshree, Bandra (east).
As per sources, meeting between BJP and Shiv Sena at 'Matoshree' was positive. "This is the beginning of reducing tensions between both the parties. 2-3 meetings are expected to happen in the coming days", BJP sources told ANI.
Earlier in the day, Shah met several high-profile people including Ratan Tata, Lata Mangeshkar, and actor Madhuri Dixit in Mumbai today. The BJP Chief was accompanied by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danve, and Maharashtra’s education minister and Mumbai’s guardian minister Vinod Tawde.
Differences have cropped up in the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra in te recent past. In this regard, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified that although there was no plan to dissolve the alliance, mutual efforts were essential for sustaining ties, news agency ANI reported.
Earlier in the day, Shah met Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit and her husband Dr Sriram Madhav Nene as part of 'Sampark for Samarthan' campaign. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the meeting. According to reports, Shah aims to meet at least 50 prominent personalities across India under the Sampark for Samarthan Abhiyan’.
The meeting comes ahead of the final showdown in 2019 during the Lok Sabha elections. According to a report by PTI, Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena leader said, "Amit Shah sought time to meet Uddhav ji. Accordingly, an appointment for tomorrow evening has been given to him."
Hours ahead of the meeting of the two prominent leaders on Wednesday, Shiv Sena’s editorial ‘Saamana’ questioned the reason behind Shah’s meetings with the NDA allies. The mouthpiece pointed to the BJP’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls. “The Shiv Sena showed its strength in the Palghar bypoll. In such a situation, the 2019 Lok Sabha polls can be one reason behind the BJP chief’s Sampark Abhiyan,” the editorial said.
