Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan on Saturday announced compensation of Rs five lakhs each to the families of those who lost their lives during protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizen (NRC) across the country.

Earlier on Thursday, the AAP MLA also provided a financial aid of Rs five lakh and a job at the Delhi Waqf Board to a Jamia student who suffered an eye injury during a protest against the amended Citizenship Act. The Delhi Waqf Board Chairman visited Minhajuddin at his residence and gave him the financial help and the job papers. Jamia University Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar also talked to Minhajuddin via a video-call.
On December 15, protests violence erupted during a protest led by Jamia Millia Islamia students. According to reports, some miscreants started vandalising public property during the protest. Following this, Delhi Police attacked those miscreants, and in that course, they entered the JMI. Meanwhile, at least 11 people lost their lives in the protests against the act in Uttar Pradesh in the last two days. According to reports, four Four deaths were reported from Meerut district. An eight-year-old boy was also among the deceased. He lost his life in a stampede in Varanasi when a violent mob was being chased by police personnel. Two people were also reportedly killed during protests.
A curfew has also been imposed in Assam’s Tinsukia from 8 pm on Saturday night to 5 am on Sunday. Similarly, curfew was relaxed for only for three hours in violence-hit Mangaluru in Karnataka on Saturday.
