Allahabad High Court Transfers Over 500 Criminal Cases Against Politicians to Special Court

The Allahabad HC has transferred around 500 criminal cases against MPs/MLAs, which were pending in the court, to special court for speedy decision of cases against lawmakers.

Allahabad, October 8: The Allahabad High Court has transferred around 500 criminal cases against elected representatives, which were pending in the court, to a special court for speedy decision of cases against lawmakers, reported Hindustan Times. Supreme Court on December 2017, ordered to set up a special court in the country against the lawmakers. A bench comprising of Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma said that the remainder of the approximately 800-900 cases against MPs and MLAs will be transferred within 15 days. How to Find Names And Details of MPs And MLAs With Criminal Cases Against Them Online.

The Bench of two-judges made this statement when they were hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Suraj Kumar seeking speedy disposal of cases against BJP MLA Indra Pratap from Gosaiganj seat against whom many criminal cases are pending.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Pawan Kumar Tiwari is appointed as Presiding Judge of Special Court, Allahabad which was set on 21 August with the High Court's notification. All district judges of Uttar Pradesh are directed to transfer pending criminal offences against elected MLAs and MPs to the special court.
