Alka Lamba, Former AAP Leader, Joins Congress Months Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections
Former Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Chandni Chowk in Delhi joined the Indian National Congress on Saturday. She was welcomed to the party in the presence of senior party leader PC Chacko and others.
New Delhi, October 12: Former Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Chandni Chowk in Delhi -- Alka Lamba -- joined the Indian National Congress on Saturday. She was welcomed to the party in the presence of senior party leader PC Chacko and others. Lamba took the official membership of Congress a day after she announced that he would take the Primary membership of the Congress at the party headquarters.
According to reports, she had mentioned that she would join Congress on Friday, but later informed that due to some reasons, she was not able to take the membership. The decision to join Congress was announced on September 6 after Lamba met the interim Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi in the national capital. Prior to joining Arvind Kejriwal's AAP in 2015, Lamba had been a member of the Congress party for 20 years. She contested 2015 Assembly elections on AAP ticket from Chandni Chowk and won the polls. It is to be known that she was disqualified from the Delhi Assembly by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on September 19, on the grounds of deflection. The reports of Lamba joining Congress arrived months ahead of the Assembly elections in Delhi -- scheduled in March-April 2020.
