Mumbai, October 16: Akola West Vidhan Sabha constituency is one of the 288 constituencies of Maharashtra state. This constituency is located in the Akola district and will go to polls on October 21. The counting of votes and election result will be declared on October 24.

The sitting MLA from the constituency is Govardhan Sharma who belongs to the BJP Party. He won the 2014 General Assembly Elections with 66,934 votes ahead of NCP candidate Deshmukh. Akola is part of the Akola Lok Sabha constituency along with five other Vidhan Sabha segments, namely Akot, Akola East, Balapur and Murtizapur in this district and Risod in adjoining Washim district. For the convenience of the voters, polling booths in Maharashtra have been geotagged. The booths located on the second floor have been shifted to the ground floor so that senior citizen and differently-abled voters can reach the booth. All the election-related procedures are to be completed before Diwali this year. The main parties contesting for the 288 Maharashtra Assembly seats elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and the Indian National Congress (INC).

The Election Commission (EC) has reiterated a complete ban on exit polls during the upcoming elections. The ban will be effective "from 7 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on October 21" when Haryana and Maharashtra will have their 2019 General Assembly polls.
